Since it was established in 2006, HSA-FW is proud to be home to a diverse and extensive selection of cultures and nations. Our students and faculty will bring to life more than 20 different nations during our Harmony Around The World Celebration. Admission is free and open to the public. | Upcoming Event: Harmony Schools Summer Camp @ Cho-Yeh |
Harmony Science Academy is arranging a summer camp for its 8th and 9th graders (boys only) at Cho-Yeh, Livingston, TX between June 4th and June 10th, 2008. The camp will be hosting students from all Harmony Schools and will include activities such as: canoeing, soccer, wall climbing, basketball, ropes course, fun games, archery and competitions.
The cost for the camp is $195. You can contact with Mr. Mehmet for more information.

| Austin-San Antonio Trip Was Full of Fun |
HSA-FW organized a 2-days trip to Austin and San Antonio for 9th graders. The trip included a visit to University of Texas (Austin), Austin Downtown, Capitol, Zilker Park, Mount Bonnell, University of Texas (San Antonio), San Antonio Downtown, Riverwalk and Alamo. They also had a chance to play basketball and soccer and also watch movie. Everybody participated enjoyed the trip a lot because it was so much fun!

| May Picnics |
Harmony Science Academy is excited to announce a new series of events: May Picnics. Starting on May 6th, we will have picnics on scheduled days (below) at Little People Park which is located by the Westcreek Elementary School (200 ft away from our school). Picnics will start by 3:30 PM and end at 5:30 PM. Permission slips will be available at the front office.

| Cinco De Mayo |
HSA-FW celebrated Cinco de Mayo on May 5th with students, parents, friends and faculty of HSA. It was a wonderful celebration with different activities. Right after the Mexican Lunch (Thanks to PTO); Cinco de Mayo started with Flag Parade of 9th graders. Kindergarten had a parade right before the salute to the Flags of Mexico, United States and Texas. The event continued with traditional dances and students had a blast with Rock Bottom’s (Aatish A. | Scarborough Festival |
Scarborough Festival was tremendous and a blast for 8th and 9th grades today. Harmony Science Academy Fort Worth rewarded 8th and 9th grades for a job well done on TAKS test. This year’s reward for excelling on the reading TAKS test is to go to the Scarborough Fair and experience the thrill of Renaissance life. Congratulations 8th and 9th grades, keep up the good work!!

| Congratulations: Silver Medal at International Science Olympiad (I-SWEEEP) |
The 2008 International Sustainable World Energy, Engineering & Environment Project Olympiad (I-SWEEEP) organized by Cosmos Foundation (Harmony Schools System) was held in Houston this past weekend. More than a thousand projects were submitted from all around the globe (58 countries + 42 states of U.S) to compete at this tremendous event. We are proud to be part of this organization. | Update: The Paperchase Recycling Contest |
Great job Harmony students! The Paperchase Recycling Contest was a huge success. The Saplings (K-3) won this year’s challenge with 321 bins of paper in 2 weeks! The reward of and ice cream party will be on the week of May 5th. More details
Thank you to all the parents and teachers who encouraged the kids to participate. Please keep it up! The paper recycle bin is an easy way for us all to contribute cash to our school while teaching our kids to be responsible for our resources. PTO.

| Congratulations: 1st Place in Texas State Science Olympiad !!! |
The Statewide Science Olympiad was held at Texas A&M University past weekend and more than 500 hundred students from all over Texas have competed. Ashley B. and Jonathan C. from 8A did a tremendous job and won 1st place in one of the Math oriented competitions (We’ve Got Your Number). Congratulations Tigers!! Keep up the good work.

| A&M Trip Was Full of Fun… |
Eight HSA students went on a trip to College Station and Texas A&M University this weekend. A&M University was found to be academically sound and culturally diverse and rich. The unique college atmosphere was not surprising for the legendary college. The physics fair was pretty interesting and the talk given by the former NASA astronaut was inspiring. | Career Day Held On April 18 |
Friday, April 18, we had career day at Harmony Science Academy – Fort Worth. The event included guest speakers from the Sherriff’s horse back division (with horses and police car), an EMT (with ambulance), Careflite (including helicopter), respiratory therapist, professional artist, entrepreneur/business owner, lawyer, financial analyst, university professor, and others. An assembly held in the gynamnatorium and guests visited classrooms to answer student’s questions. We all enjoyed the event and learned more about different career opportunities. | HSA 2nd Annual Parent Picnic Held on April 12 |
HSA 2nd Annual Family Picnic was held last Saturday. We gather again as “Harmony Family” and had a great time. Parent vs. Teacher volleyball game was such a challenge for the staff but Staff took care of the business for this year. Thanks to all parents, students and staff members for being with us and hope to meet you all at the next one!!

| Pre-Engineering Program at HSA-FORT WORTH |
Harmony Science Academy is proud to offer a comprehensive pre-engineering program for high school students in 2008-2009 school years.
Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is a national non-profit organization established to help schools give students the knowledge they need to excel in high-tech-fields. PLTW’s instruction, generally one-third theory and two-thirds application, gives students meaningful, hands-on experience in problem-solving, teamwork, and project-based learning.
PLTW is the only pre-engineering/engineering technology of its kind in the nation. It is presently offered in over 900 schools in 42 states and the District of Columbia and is affiliated with such groups as NASA, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, American Society of Electrical Engineers, American Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and others.

| Congratulations: 6th State Wide Turkish Olympiad Winners |
Our talented junior student Lucy M. of 7B won 1st place on Art Contest with her great drawing at Houston State Wide Turkish Olympiad . Besides, Andrew P. of 7B won the 2nd place on Country Exhibition Contest with his presentation of our school display. Furthermore, Wesley S. of 8B won the 4th place on Presentation Contest, Humza M. of 6A won 5th place on General Cultures Contest and our very talented rock band group Rock Bottom (Nissan B. of 5B, Subrat B. of 5A and Atish A. of 7B) won 5th place on Talent Contest out of 15 teams from all over the Texas in their first year.

| Congratulations: Odyssey of the Mind Team |
On Saturday, April 5th, the HSA Ft. Worth Odyssey of the Mind competed in the State Tournament in Houston. The team competed against many teams from all over the state and finished in 8th place! The students did a terrific job, especially for their first year and they are already looking forward to next year. We are so proud of you!

State science fair qualified students from HSA-FW are participated in ExxonMobile Texas Science and Engineering Fair in San Antonio last weekend, April 10th, 11th and 12th. John C. of 9A won special award and Aleigh D. of 9A got recognation for her work.

| School Play "Musical Rats" |
Thursday March 13th, fifth graders and selected second graders performed the musical called “Rats”. The play was based on Pied Piper story. Production involved 26 actors and 9 backstage productions. It last 40 minutes and they were practicing for about six month.

Harmony Science Academy - Fort Worth students got total of 25 category and special awards at 57th Fort Worth Regional Science Fair held on the first week of March at University of North Texas at Denton. 11 HSA-FW students won the privilege to attend the Texas Science Fair to represent HSA-FW and Fort Worth region. Congratulations to all!!!

| Congratulations to HSA Odyssey of the Mind Team!!! |
On Saturday, March 1st, a team of fifth and sixth graders competed in the North Texas Regional Odyssey of the Mind tournament. They chose a problem called "The Eccentrics" and have been working for the last five months to prepare for the competition. They performed in two competitions for a panel of judges and did a wonderful job. The team members finished in 3rd place and were very excited to bring a trophy back for HSA! The team included Shelby T., William B., Samuel G., Charlene B., Isa-Bella H., Leah B., and Stefan H. This was the first time HSA-Ft. | Black History Month Assembly |
We held an assembly on the last week of February to recognize the Black History Month and importance of black heritage in our history. A presentation about the history and important figures of black heritage in US is made and our students performed a play featuring the questions of a black young mind may have. Mallex P. of 8A gave a speech using a short version of Martin Luther King's famous "I have a dream" speech. We all enjoyed the play and the assembly. HSA-Fort Worth Science Olympiad Teams competed at the Tarleton Regional Science Olympiad this past Saturday. Congratulations to our students who brought home one 1st place, five 2nd places and four 3rd places as individuals; which lead us to the Texas Science Olympiad Competition in College Station, between April 25th and 26th. Besides, our both teams got 3rd and 4th place in Division B as a team. Congratulations to Harmony Tigers!!
