Dear Parents and Students,
The 4th Practice TAKS Test will be administered on March 23, 24 & 25, 2010 (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday).The schedule will be as follows:

March 23, Tuesday        : Mathematics (grades 3-11)
March 24, Wednesday  : Reading (grades 3 - 8)                                   
                                         Science (grades 10 & 11)
March 25, Thursday       : Science (grades 5 & 8)
                                         Social Studies (grades 8, 10 and 11)

Harmony Science Academy Fort Worth organized its first College Awareness Night for 2010 on March 4th. Mrs. Sanchez from TCU and Mrs. Ivory from Neumont University joined us and spoke to our high school students. Here are the topics discussed:

HSA PTO Is proud to present our first Main Event Entertainment fundraiser night Thursday, April 1 from
5-9pm. PTO will be pre-selling from now until Monday, March 22. The tickets are $20 per person inclunding 4-hours of unlimited bowling(shoes included), Laser Tag, Billiards (accompanied with a parent) and a $5 game card.

Teacher Excellence, commonly referred to as D.A.T.E. The purpose of D.A.T.E. is to allow
districts to create or continue a system of awards for educators who demonstrate success in
improving student achievement.

The grant program helps districts to create a local award plan
or to implement the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP).
At least 60% of the grant funds must be used to reward teachers and principals who positively
impact student academic improvement, growth, and/or achievement. The remaining funds may
be used for other allowable activities including stipends and awards for identified teachers,
principals, mentors, instructional coaches and master teachers. In addition, these funds may be
used for professional development, increasing local data capabilities to support instruction and
accountability, and implementing elements of the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP).

Harmony Science Academy Fort Worth participated in Regional Singing and Poetry contest in Grand Prairie on Saturday, March 6th, 2010. Safire, Humza, Katelyn and Milad showed great performance in their categories. After 3 hours of challenging contest Katelyn got the 4th place and Safire got the 1st place in singing contest. Congratulations Harmony Tigers!

The Fort Worth Regional Science Fair took place Sunday to Monday, with the awards ceremony last night. Harmony-FW took 14 places and 30 Special Awards given by companies like Lockheed Martin, Environmental Protection Agency, Fort Worth Audubon Society, Mu Alpha Theta, NOAA, and the American Meteorological Society. A very special congratulations to K. McRae for a 2nd place Overall Best in Fair for her 6-8th grade Division. Attached is the list of winners.

Our science Olympiad team attended to Tarleton State University Regional Science Olympiad Competition on February 27th. It was a great opportunity for our students to show how great they are at Science, Math and Engineering. They all did perfect after 6 month-long practice period.
We got 4 first places, 2 second places and 3 third places. We also got the 2nd place trophy in team category and qualified to compete in Statewide Science Olympiad Competition.
Please join us to give our Science Olympiad Team a big applaud.

Harmony Science Academy would like to give a special thank you to Wal-Mart good works program for their recent generous gift donation of $25,000 on December 16, 2009. We would also like to thank Jungus Jordan – Fort Worth City Councilman for helping us and all his hard work. This donation will be used to purchase more reading material for our library and to enhance our Accelerated Reading Program.

We are happy to announce that HSA Fort Worth has placed in the MathCounts competition held Saturday. This year was as challenging as ever, so please join me in applauding the entire MathCounts team, and their coach, Mr. Bulut for doing such an excellent job. As we gain more experience in the MathCounts program, our scores are sure to go up!

We had two individual students place very high in the rankings, Devesh Singh in 9th place and Anthony Salvitti in 20th place. Both students were in the top 25% of competitors, which is a very impressive feat.

Please join us in congratulating the MathCounts team for all of their hard work!

On October 31st, Harmony Science Academy’s Volleyball team competed in the state championships in Waco. After numerous matches throughout the day our volleyball team defeated teams from all across the state of Texas to secure a spot in the final championship match. It took three games to defeat St. Anthony’s before our lady tigers were crowned as the State Champions. Congratulations on a great season!

Harmony Science Academy - Fort Worth, is among the very best public schools in Texas, based on a recent study using a new set of rankings that considers from test scores to class sizes.

The study is done by Children at Risk, a non-profit group, who analyzed and ranked more than 5,900 schools statewide. In North Texas, 807 elementary schools, 292 middle schools and 158 high schools were ranked.
In the middle school rankings, the Fort Worth Harmony Science Academy charter school was the only Tarrant County school in the area’s top 20.

Harmony Science Academy - Fort Worth campus is ranked:
15th in North Texas (out of 292 middle schools)
115th in Texas (out of 1,676 middle schools)

“Aren’t you guys tired of coming to the stage?” said one of the staff members from the Regional Science Fair, as she presented their 4th awards to Sam (8B) and Roman (8C).

Not only Sam and Roman, but many other Harmony students were called numerous times to the stage to receive their awards for their science projects. Once again Harmony students performed a tremendous job at this year’s Regional Science Fair. Harmony received the “Best School Award” for two years and dominated the fair with plenty of special awards and scholarships.

Last Tuesday, Harmony made history at the Regional Science Fair by receiving 50 awards including the 1st Place Martha Hickey Award for being the best school. 22 of our students qualified to Exxon Mobil Statewide Science Fair which will be held in San Antonio. Also, three of our Science teachers received recognition for encouraging attendance for Regional Science Fair.

HSA Fort Worth Students did it again at Exxon Mobil State Science and Engineering Fair in San Antonio between March 28th and 30th. Students received numerous awards during the competition including several division awards and special awards.

Congratulations to all our contestant and winner students as well as their parents and advisors who made this remarkable success. We also wish them good luck for the next stages and next year.

HSA-FW middle school robotics team (Tigers) competed in the North Texas First LEGO League (FLL) Championship on January 31, 2009 at the University of Texas at Dallas. Even it was their first year of entering the FLL competition, Tigers team did a great job at the very difficult robotics challenge table and won the first-place in Robot Design, and the second-place in Robot Performance.

Harmony Science Academy hosted another distinguished guest from Fort Worth Area; Fort Worth Police Chief Jeffrey Halstead.Police Chief Jeffrey Halstead had short visits to classrooms and talked about the importance of education and goal settings. Police Chief stated that he is impressed and glad to have a school like ours in his district.

9th and 10th grade students from Harmony Science Academy-Fort Worth extended their hospitality to Representative Mark Shelton (from District 97 of the State of Texas House of Representatives) and James Williams (representative for Congressman Kenny Marchant, United States House of Representatives, District 24, which covers our campus in Grand Prarie). Representative Shelton spoke about the life of a congressman and answered students’ questions regarding the intricacies of how our government functions, the culture of Texas politics, the importance of a college education, constitutional matters, and much, much more. We are incredibly appreciative of Representative Shelton, Joseph Peeler Howell (District Director for R. Shelton), and James Williams for sharing their time and energy and encouraging our students.

Harmony Science Academy is continuing our Outreach program in the Fort Worth Area. Last week, Area Superintendent Dr. Eski and our Principal Mr. Oner had a visit on behalf of HSA Fort Worth with our students to the Mayor of Fort Worth Michael J. "Mike" Moncrief. Mayor Moncrief welcomed us warmly and shared his projects concerning Fort Worth. He listened to the projects and vision about our school. He congratulated our students regarding our success in academic competitions. He emphasized the importance of education in life and he expressed his pride and happiness in having a school like ours in his city. Handing little gifts to our students, he accepted the invitation to our school and willing to visit someday.

Harmony Science Academy - Fort Worth students and administrators visited City Councilman Jungus Jordan. Councilman Jordan congratulated all HSA-FW students and staff for the exemplary rating in its second year. He was also invited for the career fair here at our campus.

Students from HSA-FW visited Congressman Marchant in Washington D.C. last week and informed him about the I-SWEEP 2009 Science Fair. Congressman Marchant congratulated HSA-FW students for keeping the exemplary status since the school is first established. They also visited the offices of Senator John Cornyn and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
